Christine Kennedy Award
This is a bursary of £400 paid to a Nairn Academy pupil about to embark on a university degree course with a literary or history connection; however it has recently been decided to widen the scope of degrees to include philosophy, arts and humanities.
It was formerly known as the Nairn Literary Institute Bursary and was instigated in 1990 to provide financial help to a Nairn Academy pupil with the purchase of books and/or equipment necessary for their university studies. The initial cheque for £100 is usually presented at Nairn Academy Annual Prize Giving to a pupil selected jointly by the school and the Nairn Literary Institute Committee. A further three cheques of £100 each are paid yearly in September, provided they continue with their studies.
It was renamed in 2018 in recognition of Mrs Kennedy's dedication and many years of invaluable service to the Nairn Literary Institute and its committee.
Each year, the Committee invites applications from students at Nairn Academy with the help of teaching staff.
